Peter Macdonald is a U.K. based artist whose practice moves between sculpture, drawing, painting, moving image and software. A long term examination of the source and emergence of creative work has traversed gestural automatism, the pseudo-random and inevitably the analogue to human creativity, machine learnt creative processes.

A recent exhibition in Cambridge entitled “Is This All Your Own Work” began with the challenging premise that human mark-making is a beautifully flawed equivalent to the work of LLMs – a pervasive technology which has pushed pressing challenges into the forefront of cultural attention. Ultimately we are asked: do we value ourselves, the broken and patched-up components of a constantly evolving soft machine more than the silicon creatures we have created?

My work has always pointed towards the ineffable and the unanswerable and more than ever offers creative practice as a refuge for the human.
